Nordex Adds To Successes In Argentina, Winning 100 MW Pomona Wind Farm Order

The Nordex Group has added a further chapter to its success story in Argentina with an order for 26 N131/3900 turbines for the “Pomona” wind farm. The contract will be executed on a full EPC basis, including civil and electrical engineering, procurement, construction and manufacturing, delivery and installation of the wind turbines. Preparations for construction will be commencing in 2017, after which the wind power systems will be installed at the beginning of 2019. In addition, a ten-year full operation and maintenance contract has also been signed.

EDF Completes Blythe Installation Of Potent New Turbines, Powering 34,000 Homes

The Blyth Offshore Demonstrator project will produce enough low-carbon electricity to power approximately 34,000 UK households, using 8.0MW wind turbines with a power mode uprating them to 8.3MW. It will save around 57,600 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year and is the first offshore wind project to connect using 66kv rated cables. It’s also the first time that a “float and submerge” gravity-based foundation (GBF) has been used for offshore wind turbines. Each GBF is made up of more than 1,800m3 of concrete and weighs over 15,000 tonnes when fully installed on the seabed, and the structures have a total height of around 60 metres from the base to the access platform.

Wind Energy Has The Potential To Provide 30% Of Europe’s Power By 2030

Wind energy has the potential to provide up to 30% of Europe’s power by 2030 according to reports by WindEurope. These state that Europe is on course for an average installation rate of 12.6 GW per year in the years up to 2020, taking it to a total of 204 GW by 2020. By this date wind would be Europe’s largest renewable energy source, surpassing hydro and providing 16.5% of it’s electricity demand. The growth is concentrated in six countries, with Eastern Europe, a platform for growth beyond 2020.

GE Renewable Energy Unveils Its Largest Onshore Wind Turbine

GE Renewable Energy has unveiled its brand-new 4.8–158 onshore wind turbine, equipped with a 158-meter rotor and a range of tip heights up to 240 meters. The combination of a larger rotor and tall towers enables the turbine to take advantage of higher wind speeds and produce more energy. The latest turbine also features high tech blades, improved loads and controls, and taller, more cost-effective towers. The innovative features have been developed in close partnerships with LM Wind Power, Blade Dynamics and GE’s Global Research Center.

GE Announces 600MW Projects; Surges Past 5GW Milestone Of Wind Energy In Brazil

GE has announced, from the Brazil Windpower conference, that it has reached 5,000 MW of installed wind capacity in the country, making it the first company to reach that milestone and confirming the company’s role in the expansion of wind energy in Brazil. By year-end, it will have installed more than 2,700 turbines and the company’s installed capacity represents more than 33% of all wind energy in the country. As part of that 5,000 MW, GE’s Onshore Wind business, a unit of GE Renewable Energy, will commission another 600 MW by the end of September.

Nordex To Surpass 2GW Threshold On Wind Turbines Installations In UK And Ireland

After installing and commissioning a total of 862 turbines in the UK and Ireland, the Nordex Group has now reached the 2 GW milestone of installed capacity in these two countries. At typical capacity factors, this represents enough power for 1.3 million homes, resulting in a market share of installed turbines of around 20% in the Republic of Ireland and around 10% in the UK. The Group has installed more than 21 GW of wind energy capacity in over 25 markets and in 2016 generated revenues of EUR 3.4 billion.

Offshore Wind Prices Drop By 50% In 5 Years. Now Cheaper Than Nuclear And Gas

Offshore wind continues to highlight UK market leadership. During the last decade; government support and innovation combined with increases in turbine efficiency and sizes have resulted in the UK heading the global ‘installed capacity’ charts. Figures just published show that offshore wind is now the lowest cost option for large-scale, low-carbon power. Advances in turbine technology have contributed significantly to recent reductions in costs per megawatt hour. Huge blades, with a single rotation, now can generate enough energy to power a home for 24 hours. Impressively, by the mid-2020s turbine, capacities are set to double again.

French Giant ENGIE Develops 55 MW Wind Farm; First Mongolian Renewable Project

ENGIE has announced that it will build and operate the Sainshand wind farm in Mongolia, its first renewable project in the country, located in the Gobi desert. This project, which is the third privately financed wind farm in Mongolia, will support the government’s objective to evolve towards a greener economy and a better environment. A US$120m project financing package has recently been signed by a group of international investors and financial institutions to develop the project. The wind farm will have a total installed capacity of 55 MW and will provide the equivalent of the electricity consumption of 130,000 people in Mongolia.

Vestas Wins 424 MW Project; Largest Mexican Wind Park, And Strengthens Position

Vestas has received an order for the largest wind park in Mexico. The order consists of 123 V136-3.45 MW turbines for a 424 MW project in Mexico. With this contract, Vestas’ order intake from Mexico’s energy auctions reaches almost 500 MW. Zuma Energía placed the order for the Parque Eólico Reynosa project in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas, which will be one of the largest wind power projects in Latin America. The order consists of 123 V136-3.45 MW turbines for a 424 MW project in Mexico. With this contract, Vestas’ order intake from Mexico’s energy auctions reaches almost 500 MW.

Siemens Gamesa Installs Asia’s Tallest Turbines, Whilst Stepping Up Integration

Siemens Gamesa has set a new record in Asia by installing this year the tallest wind turbines on the continent. The turbines are equipped with 153-metre tall towers, and with the 56-metre blades, they reach a total height of 210 metres. Presently, a major focus for the company is the integration of the entities of Siemens and Gamesa. This has the objective of realising the new company’s substantial potential, thanks to its bigger scale and global reach: a presence in more than 90 countries, an installed base of 75 GW, and an order book of €21bn.

Offshore Wind Drives 6.1 GW Of European Wind Installations In First Half Of 2017

6.1 GW of extra wind energy capacity was installed in Europe in the first half of 2017, according to figures released by WindEurope. The figure puts Europe on course for a bumper year for installations, although hides some worrying trends. WindEurope Chief Policy Officer, Pierre Tardieu, said: “We are on track for a good year in wind capacity installations but growth is driven by a handful of markets. At least ten EU countries have yet to install a single MW so far this year. Although this won’t translate into lower installations for another few years, the industry needs clarity on volumes for the post-2020 period to maintain the current cost reduction trend”.
