Indian Firm Wins 1.8GW Sweihan Order; The Largest Solar PV Project In The World

Indian company Sterling and Wilson has won the contract for the world’s largest single location solar PV project. The Sweihan project in Abu Dhabi is for turnkey EPC as well as O&M; and is jointly developed by Japanese investment firm Marubeni, Chinese solar company Jinko Solar, and Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA). It will deliver a capacity of 1177 MWp, surpassing the current largest 850 MWp single location plant in China. In March 2017, Marubeni and Jinko had signed a 25-year PPA with ADWEA on a tariff of $0.0242/kWh, making Sweihan also the plant with the lowest electricity price so far.

ABB Innovation Integral To The World’s Largest Floating Solar Plant Test-bed

Land scarcity has severely limited Singapore’s adoption of solar power, so the city-state, surrounded by water, has looked to floating solar panels as a viable alternative. Floating solar panels can be 11% more efficient than solar panels placed on precious land. ABB is providing critical components on a landmark 1MW floating solar photovoltaic test-bed. It measures 1 hectare or 1.5 football fields. The energy generated will be fed into the national energy grid, providing electricity for up to 250 households.

Trina’s Solar Revolution: DUOMAX Twin Packs 25% Additional Generating Capacity

Trina Solar has announced the launch of its high-efficiency bifacial module DUOMAX Twin, which generates power from both the front and back sides of the solar module and performs well even under weak light conditions. The front side receives direct sunlight while the back side receives reflected and scattered light. Compared with traditional single-sided modules, the DUOMAX Twin can deliver as much as 25% additional generating capacity. The company’s leadership in PERC cell technology has achieved several world records and total shipments of over 1 Gigawatt over the past years.

Engie Strengthens Solar Presence In China With 30% Equity Investment In UNISUN

ENGIE has signed in Shanghai an Agreement for a 30% equity investment through a capital increase in UNISUN, a PV company. Since 2014, UNISUN has successfully developed around 500 MW PV projects, showing strong technical capacity. During COP21, China pledged to peak its carbon emissions in 2030 or earlier; the country shall subsequently increase the share of non-fossil energy from 13% to 20% in its energy mix by then.

Total And SunPower Join Forces To Build Solar Power Plant In Japan

Total and SunPower and ISE Group, have started up a 27-megawatt-peak photovoltaic power plant in Nanao on Japan’s Honshu Island. Completed one year after the beginning of construction, the plant will generate clean and reliable electricity to serve thousands of Japanese households on the island. The Nanao plant is jointly owned by ISE Group, which holds 50 percent interest, with Total and SunPower each holding a 25 percent interest.

NEOEN Uses Innovative O&M Software For Tracking Performance At Wind Farms

Neoen, a leading renewable project developer and owner, has chosen QOS Energy’s innovative O&M management platform to monitor the performance of the 315 MW Hornsdale wind project, which will be amongst the largest wind farms operating in Australia once fully commissioned. A key benefit for Neoen is that no additional hardware or system installation is required onsite to run the software, which allows for a swift and cost effective set-up of data acquisition processes. The platform gathers and analyses data generated by each turbine for all measured values using a secure VPN connection.

Clean Energy Revolution For Japan: Inauguration Of Asia’s First E3 Power Plant

Six years after the natural disaster and the reactor catastrophe in the Fukushima prefecture, governor Masao Uchibori has inaugurated the first E3 power plant by pressing the button that starts the operations. The clean energy power plant by ENTRADE, located at the small health resort Nishigo, uses biomass which is available in the region – for instance pellets derived from waste wood and sawdust – to provide a hotel and a spa resort with electricity, heat and cooling. After the successful start-up of the pilot plant further E3 power plants shall be set up during the following weeks.
