Dubai’s Invitation For Innovative Companies To Meet 21st Century Challenges

Dubai is to create a new program to reward innovative companies around the world. The Companies will compete to solve seven key “21st-century challenges”. The program is designed to create new partnerships, deploy new technologies and test them at the city-wide scale and is another example of Dubai’s deepening commitment to becoming a test bed for futuristic technologies and businesses that are intended to change the future of Dubai.

Morocco Accelerates With 120MW Vestas Wind Energy Project

The Khalladi wind park will be the first renewable energy project financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Morocco, that allows private producers to sell electricity (through PPAs) to industry. In addition to EBRD, the project is co-financed by the Moroccan bank BMCE and Argan Infrastructure Fund, an Africa-focused infrastructure fund managed by Infra Invest. The contract comprises the supply of the turbines as well as a 20-year service agreement.

New York State To Generate 50% Of Its Electricity From Clean Energy By 2030

The third-largest state economy in the US will soon obtain half of its electricity needs from renewable energy thanks to a new measure approved by the New York Public Service commission. The Empire State’s new Clean Energy Standard will diversify the state’s electricity by requiring utilities and other energy suppliers to procure over 26 percent of the state’s electricity mix with clean and renewable energy resources, including solar and wind power, in 2017, and over 30 percent by 2021, rising to 50 percent by 2030.

EON Enables Digital Realty To Be 100% Clean Energy Powered

E.ON and Digital Realty, have announced a long-term agreement to procure energy from the Colbeck’s Corner Wind Farm. The agreement allows Digital Realty to offset 100% of its U.S. colocation and interconnection energy footprint. Colbeck’s Corner is a 200.48 MW wind farm located 37 miles east of Amarillo, Texas. It has 112 GE 1.79-100 turbines that can create enough electricity to power approximately 64,000 homes. E.ON has developed more than 3GW of wind projects in the US since 2005.

Siemens And Pattern Combine For Major Wind Power Plant In New Mexico And Texas

Siemens (Wind Power and Renewables Division) has agreed with Pattern Energy Group LP to deliver, install and service a total of 141 wind turbines for the Broadview Wind project. The project combines two adjacent projects in New Mexico and Texas with a total installed capacity of 324 megawatts (MW). Siemens Financial Services Division will provide loans for the project totalling nearly $100m. The project is expected to supply about 180,000 average U.S. homes and Siemens is expected to commence installation this month.

The recent state power auction in Mexico awarded 5.38 million megawatt-hours of energy to renewable energies; solar won 74 percent and wind won the remaining 26 percent. Solar in Mexico will now grow by an astonishing 521 percent in 2016, far exceeding projections made only months earlier. Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Plans To Invest $12bn In Egypt For Solar And Wind Projects

Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power intends to invest $12 billion in the Egyptian market over the course of the next five years. It plans to establish solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 4.2GW from $7.5 billion in investments. The plans include the implementation of a series of projects, including the 2.25GW capacity Dayrout power plant and three 150MW-capacity solar and wind plants. Organisations financing the projects include the Chinese Silk Road Fund, the Saudi Investment Fund and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

Invenergy And Empire State Agree On 600MW, $1.2Bn Of Wind Projects In New York

HVDC transmission developer Empire State Connector Corp. (ESC) has announced that the Company has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Invenergy, currently developing a portfolio of up to 600 MW of new Upstate New York wind energy generation projects, that the ESC could deliver to downstate electricity customers. The MOU could be a highly significant step in the implementation of the 50% by 2030 Clean Energy Standard under consideration by the New York State Public Service Commission.
