Philippine-based Aboitiz Power has signed an agreement with General Electric Co. to power a 8.8-megawatt waste-to-electricity project in Lian in Batangas province.<\/p>\n

The agreement was signed by Abotiz\u2019s renewables subsidiary Aseagas Corp. with GE\u2019s Distributed Power business. The Batangas plant will utilize organic waste from sugar cane and molasses from a nearby alcohol distillery.<\/p>\n

Aside from electricity, the plant will have by-products of fertilizer and CO2 that can be sold to farmers and beverage companies, respectively\u2014achieving complete \u201cno additional waste\u201d production. The plant will be able to generate power for an estimated 22,000 homes.<\/p>\n
