{"id":383,"date":"2015-02-04T11:08:46","date_gmt":"2015-02-04T11:08:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cleanenergyworld.net\/index.php\/2015\/02\/04\/south-africa-ready-to-implement-carbon-trading-program-study-shows\/"},"modified":"2015-02-04T11:08:46","modified_gmt":"2015-02-04T11:08:46","slug":"south-africa-ready-to-implement-carbon-trading-program-study-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cleanenergyworld.net\/index.php\/2015\/02\/04\/south-africa-ready-to-implement-carbon-trading-program-study-shows\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa Ready to Implement Carbon Trading Program, Study Shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prometheum Carbon said a pilot carbon offsets trading scheme has demonstrated that South Africa could\u00a0 implement such a program.<\/p>\n<p>The three-year\u00a0 program, funded by the U.K. government, was conducted in\u00a0 collaboration with the Johannesburg Stock Exchange , the JSE\u2019s commodities registry Silocerts and the registry\u2019s technology provider Done Technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The program is aimed at studying the applicability of existing South African commercial and financial infrastructure for use as a carbon trading platform.\u00a0 The demonstration consisted of performing actual trades of carbon credits on an over-the-counter basis from a wide variety of international standards such as the clean development mechanism , which can include projects such as hydropower, wind energy and industrial efficiency improvements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese trades were then mirrored in a test environment on the electronic platforms of the JSE and Silocerts,\u201d said Prometheum Carbon . \u201cThe structure of the JSE commodities market&#8230; is 100% applicable to the trade of carbon offset credits.
