{"id":5632,"date":"2016-01-06T11:11:39","date_gmt":"2016-01-06T11:11:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cleanenergyworld.net\/index.php\/2016\/01\/06\/canadian-solar-advances-astoria-2-pv-project-ge-energy\/"},"modified":"2016-01-06T11:11:39","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T11:11:39","slug":"canadian-solar-advances-astoria-2-pv-project-ge-energy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cleanenergyworld.net\/index.php\/2016\/01\/06\/canadian-solar-advances-astoria-2-pv-project-ge-energy\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadian Solar advances Astoria 2 PV Project with GE Energy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.canadiansolar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Solar Inc<\/a>.,\u00a0\u00a0one of the world&#8217;s largest solar power companies, today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, <a href=\"http:\/\/recurrentenergy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Recurrent Energy<\/a>, one of <span class=\"xn-location\">North America&#8217;s<\/span> largest solar project developers, closed on a tax equity investment commitment with \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/geenergyfinancialservices.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GE Energy Financial Services<\/a> for the 75 megawatt (MWac) Astoria 2 solar power project.<\/p>\n<p>Recurrent Energy will be the managing member of the Astoria 2 solar power project and plans to own and operate the facility.\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.santanderbank.com\/us\/corporate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Santander Bank<\/a><\/span>, N.A. \u00a0was the coordinating lead arranger of a five member bank club including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nordlb.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NORD\/LB<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rabobank.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rabobank<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.key.com\/corporate\/index.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Key Bank<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bankoncit.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CIT Bank<\/a>, which will provide project-level construction debt, a letter of credit facility and a back-leveraged term loan facility, totaling approximately <span class=\"xn-money\">$180 million<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Astoria 2 transaction completes the financing of Recurrent Energy&#8217;s late-stage portfolio and is our second transaction with GE,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">Shawn Qu<\/span>, Chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar. &#8220;The support of this bank club and the expansion of our work with GE reflects our ability to consistently deliver high quality solar assets.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Investing in the Astoria 2 project builds upon our relationships with Recurrent Energy and Canadian Solar and continues the expansion of our global renewable energy footprint,&#8221; says <span class=\"xn-person\">Kevin Walsh<\/span>, managing director and head of Renewables at GE Energy Financial Services.<\/p>\n<p>The Astoria 2 project follows GE Energy Financial Services&#8217; investment in the Astoria project and builds upon its investment commitments of <span class=\"xn-money\">$2 billion<\/span> in nearly two gigawatts of solar power projects worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Canadian Solar has executed on a remarkable pipeline of U.S. solar projects in 2015 with the support of Santander,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">Jorge Camina<\/span>, Head of Project &amp; Acquisition Finance at Santander. &#8220;The structuring of this complex transaction with the Company, GE and the other lenders is another major achievement for Santander that will contribute to creating jobs and clean energy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Astoria 2 solar power project, located in <span class=\"xn-location\">Kern County<\/span>, is expected to reach commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2016 and will utilize GE 1500V inverters. The project is expected to generate enough clean solar energy to power approximately 25,000\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> homes. The electricity and associated renewable energy credits (RECs) generated by the facility will be sold under power purchase agreements.
