Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited<\/a> (“TPREL”), has announced, that it has completed the acquisition of 100% shareholding in Welspun Renewables Energy Private Limited<\/a> (“WREPL”) and its subsidiaries. This represents the largest transaction in the renewables sector in India.<\/p>\n

WREPL has one of the largest operating solar portfolios in India spread across ten states. It has about 1,141 MW of Renewable Power Projects comprising of about 990 MW Solar Power Projects and about 150 MW of Wind Power Projects. Out of 1,141 MW renewable portfolio, over 1,000 MW of capacity is operational and balance capacity is in advanced stages of implementation.\u00a0Chetan Tolia has been appointed CEO & Executive Director of WREPL. He was Chief Human Resources Officer of Tata Power<\/a> prior to this appointment.\u00a0TPREL currently operates 312 MW of Renewable power capacity and 500 MW of Renewable assets are being carved out of Tata Power into TPREL through a court process. In addition, about 400 MW of Solar and Wind power projects are under implementation. Thus, TPREL with all these assets will have renewable assets portfolio of about 2,300 MW making it the largest Renewable Power Company in India.<\/p>\n

Speaking on achieving this milestone, Rahul Shah, CEO & Executive Director, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, said, “the Company continues to pursue growth in Renewable Energy space to create value through various organic and inorganic growth opportunities. This acquisition will enable the company to deliver significant value for all stakeholders as most of the assets are revenue generating and operating assets. “.\u00a0Chetan Tolia, CEO & Executive Director of WREPL said “WREPL will now embark upon a consolidation plan to stabilise and also optimise the returns on the assets to make the acquisition a success”<\/p>\n

JM Financial Institutional Securities Limited<\/a> acted as exclusive Transaction Advisor to TPREL in relation to this transaction. KPMG India Private Limited<\/a> was the Accounting & Tax Advisor. AZB & Partners<\/a> acted as the Legal Advisor for this transaction.<\/p>\n

TPREL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power. TPREL is Tata Power’s primary investment vehicle for clean and renewable energy based power generation capacity. TPREL’s present operating capacity is 294 MW, comprising 240 MW wind and 54 MW solar, located in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The company is also in the process of implementing nearly 400 MW of renewable power projects at various locations. In order to aggregate its clean and renewable energy portfolio, Tata Power has initiated the process of carving out its 500MW clean energy assets from its books into TPREL. TPREL is seeking to grow its renewable portfolio in India and in select international markets through organic and inorganic opportunities. With WREPL acquisition the portfolio of TPREL grows to about 2,300 MW making it one of the largest Renewable Energy companies in India.<\/p>\n

Tata Power is India’s largest integrated power company with a growing international presence. The Company together with its subsidiaries and jointly controlled entities has an installed gross generation capacity of 9184 MW and a presence in all the segments of the power sector viz.
