South African developer BioTherm Energy has won the right to develop three wind and solar farms with a combined capacity of 251 megawatts in the country\u2019s latest round of tender for clean energy projects.<\/p>\n
Denham Capital-backed BioTherm won the 120-MW Golden Valley wind facility and the 45-MW Aggeneys and 86-MW Konkoonsies II solar projects in the fourth round of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program<\/p>\n
BioTherm had won 49MW of wind and solar projects secured in the first round of the program, all of which are operating.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis 251MW allocation by the DOE reflects our ability to compete directly with leading international players who have come to dominate the South African landscape,\u201d said the company\u2019s CEO Jasandra Nyker. \u201cThis new allocation cements its position as a leading African-based renewable energy developer.<\/p>\n
BioTherm has previously also been named preferred bidder for four solar power projects in Zambia and two solar projects in Burkina Faso.<\/p>\n
\u201cBioTherm\u2019s focus on sub-Saharan Africa is equally important to its growth strategy in South Africa,\u201d shared Nyker. \u201cRegionalized growth of renewable energy such as wind or solar offers significant economic development and assists in improving the local manufacturing and services value chain.<\/p>\n
