Wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems has been awarded a contract to supply 149 sets of its 2-megawatt turbines to a project in Oklahoma, United States.
The 298-MW Kingfisher project is developed by Apex Energy. Private Equity firm First Reserve, which awarded the contract to Vestas, has agreed to acquire the project from Apex. Apex will manage construction, and will serve as an asset manager during facility operation.
The Kingfisher project, due to be completed this year, enjoys a strong, consistent wind resource. Vestas has previously supplied 49 sets of 2MW turbines to Apex for the Hoopeston Wind project in Illinois, which was subsequently acquired by IKEA.
