Australian State Sets 20% by 2020 Renewables Target

The state government of Victoria in Australia has set a target of producing 20% of its electricity from renewables by 2020.

This state currently produces 12% of its electricity from renewable sources, mostly from wind and solar. The government has also launched an initiative to source renewable energy certificates from new projects in Victoria, bringing forward around A$200 million of new investment in at least 100 megawatts of renewable energy projects.

The initiatives were unveiled in the state’s Renewable Energy Roadmap. Public consultation on the Roadmap will feed into the development of the Victorian Renewable Energy Action Plan, which will set long-term actions to drive renewable energy investment in Victoria.
