Dong Energy’s 312-megawatt Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore wind power plant in Germany has started operating.
The project comprises 78 sets of Siemens wind turbines, each with a capacity of 3.6 megawatts and a rotor diameter of 120 meters. It will supply around 320,000 German households with electricity.
Siemens is also providing service and maintenance for the turbines for an initial period of 10 years. Borkum Riffgrund 1 has been developed and constructed by Dong Energy with its partners Kirkbi Invest and William Demant Invest.
“Borkum Riffgrund 1 is an impressive example of just how fast offshore installations can now be installed,” said Dong Energy board of directors chairman Thomas Thune Andersen. “Borkum Riffgrund 1 is an impressive example of just how fast offshore installations can now be installed.”
“This translates into lower costs and is good news for consumers. We are currently building another two offshore wind projects and have a number of other projects in our pipeline that will allow us to demonstrate the skills and competences we have gained and will allow us to continue to show the trust we have in the German offshore wind market.”
