Akuo Energy Signs Deal to Sell Wind Energy to Wal Mart From Texas Project

French renewable energy producer Akuo Energy has signed an agreement to sell power from its 50-megawatts Rocksprings Wind Farm in Texas to Wal Mart.

Wal Mart will buy 50% of the output from the project, which is expected to start operating in the third quarter of 2016. The power-purchase agreement will be for a 12-year period.

“The Rocksprings Wind Farm is Akuo Energy’s first project under construction in the United States, and we look forward to continued collaboration with sustainable minded companies like Walmart,” said Thomas Cote, CEO of Akuo Energy USA. “Corporations across America should take note of the leadership and vision displayed by Walmart in implementing this renewable energy strategy”.

Akuo Energy has a portfolio of wind energy development projects totalling over 1,000MW in the United States. It also plans to set up a solar energy platform.

“The Akuo PPA is a welcome addition to our renewable energy portfolio, and will provide power to more than 350 Walmart stores, Sam’s Clubs, and Distribution Centers in Texas,” said Shannon Letts, senior vice president of Walmart Realty. “We are constantly working to scale Walmart’s use of renewable energy, and each project like this helps us get closer to our goal to produce or procure seven billion kilowatt hours  of renewable energy globally by 2020.”
