Canadian Solar Connects Six Solar Power Plants And Exceeds 100MWp In UK

Canadian Solar Inc., one of the world’s largest solar power companies, has announced that it has connected an additional six solar power plants, totaling 39.4MWp to the grid, bringing its total fleet of solar power plants in commercial operation in the United Kingdom to approximately 103.0MWp. The six solar power plants were connected to the grid in March 2016 under the Renewable Obligations Certificate (ROC) program. In the past 14 years, the company has successfully deployed over 14 GW of premium quality modules in over 90 countries around the world.

DTE Energy Transforms Detroit Brownfield Land Into Solar Power Array

DTE Energy, Michigan’s leading provider of and investor in solar energy, has received approval from the Detroit City Council to develop one of the largest urban solar power arrays in the country on a 10-acre vacant parcel of land in Detroit. The project will generate more than $1 million in tax revenue for the City over the life of the 20-year lease and will produce enough clean energy to power nearly 450 homes. DTE plans to begin construction on the project in May, with completion scheduled for the end of 2016.

Saudi Arabian Acwa Power Acquires 50MW Solar Project In Jordan

The acquisition for an undisclosed fee comes as the government of Jordan has awards power purchase agreements for 12 solar energy projects, seeking to install 200 megawatts in total. It will result in about 2.3 million tonnes of CO2 saved during its PPA term, which is roughly enough to power 15,000 homes. Prior to the acquisition a 20-year power purchase agreement had already been signed with Jordan’s National Electric Power Company (NEPCO). Germany’s ET Solutions AG will be providing engineering, procurement and construction services.

With the participation of Sumitomo Corporation, Brazil’s Cosan Biomassa will increase its exports to Japan and Europe along with increased domestic sales, of up to 45 million tons/year of sugarcane pellets. Cosan has developed a fuel pellet made from sugarcane residues such as bagasse from the sugar mill and straw left over in the sugarcane field, and built a large-scale production plant (annual capacity 175,000 tons), the world’s first, last September. It commenced commercial production in December 2015.
