EDF Energies Nouvelles Commissions 74-MW Canadian Wind Farm

EDF Energies Nouvelles has commissioned the 74-megawatt Mont-Rothery wind farm in Quebec, Canada.

The 74 MW facility is the seventh and last one of the programme assigned to EDF EN Canada by Hydro-Québec Distribution to supply one gigawatt of wind power.

The Mont-Rothery wind farm is located in the Regional County Municipalities of La Haute-Gaspésie and La Cote-de-Gaspe in the Province of Quebec. It consists of 37 wind turbines each with a unit capacity of 2MW. The power generated by this new facility is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 15,000 homes and is supplied by Hydro-Québec Distribution under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement.

The wind farms’ operations and maintenance will be provided by EDF Renewable Services Inc. Canada, EDF Energies Nouvelles’ subsidiary. Mont-Rothery is the final project in a 1GW programme of seven wind farms developed, built and commissioned by EDF EN Canada following competitive tenders held by Hydro-Québec Distribution in 2008 and 2010.
