Enel Starts Construction of Two Chilean Solar Farms

Enel Green Power has started construction of two solar-power projects in Chile that have a combined capacity of 176 megawatts.

The 97-MW Carrera Pinto project is located in the Atacama region and owned by Parque Solar Carrera Pinto, a subsidiary of Enel Green Power Chile. Once fully operational, the new plant will be able to generate more than 260 gigawatt hours per year.

It will be completed and enter service in the second half of 2016. Enel will invest US$180 million in the project.

The second project, the 79-MW Pampa Norte solar farm, is located in the municipality of Taltal, in the Antofagasta region. Both projects have a long-term power purchase agreement with Empresa Nacional de Electricidad, with the energy delivered to Sistema Interconectado Central, Chile’s Central Region Transmission Network.
