Kenya Electricity Generating Starts Operating 280-MW Geothermal Plant

Kenya Electricity Generating Co., the state-owned utility, has started commercial operations of the 280-megawatt Olkaria geothermal project, the country’s largest geothermal plant.

Korea’s Hyundai Engineering Co.  and Japan’s Toyota Tsusho Corp were awarded the engineering procurement and construction contract by  Kenya Electricity Generating Co.  Toshiba Corp. , selected supplied four 70-megawatt turbines and generators for the plant in 2013. Olkaria IV started commercial operation in September 2014, followed by Olkaria I in January this year.
