Nordex Expands Presence in South Africa With 111-MW Wind Farm Win

Wind turbine maker Nordex has expanded its project development pipeline in South Africa, after winning the right to set up a 111-megawatt wind farm.

Nordex said the project in the south of the country is fully-financed, and it will comprise 37 sets of its 3-MW turbines.

“The establishment of a local company in 2012 marked an important strategic step forward in our efforts to position ourselves in the emerging South African market,” said Lars Bondo Krogsgaard, a member of Nordex SE’s Management Board. “In this way, we are able to handle local projects more swiftly and competently.”

Nordex has been awarded the right to develop 425.4MW of wind projects in the country including the 111-MW project, or 20% of the total of 1,983MW allocated in the first three auctions by the government. It is also developing the 100-MW Dorper, the 80-MW Kouga and the 134.4-MW Amakhala projects.
