A consortium of Fuji Electric Co. and Balcke Durr has secured a contract to construct a 45-megawatt power generating unit and cold end equipment for a geothermal project owned by Iceland’s state-owned Landsvirkjun.
Landsvirkjun said the cost of the contract is US$42 million. The project involves the design, manufacture, and installation of the steam turbine and generator and cold end equipment. The contract also includes the option of purchasing an additional 45-MW generating unit for the second phase of the project.
The plant is expected to start power production in the autumn of 2017.
