Japan’s Marubeni Corp. has signed an agreement with EDF Energies Nouvelles to jointly develop a 146-MW solar plant project in Antofagasta, Chile.
The project is located in the Atacama Desert, which has the highest level of irradiation in the world, and will be connected to Chile’s Northern Interconnected System. It will be owned by Marubeni and EDF Energies Nouvelles, a subsidiary of Electricite de France.
The project represents the third venture between the two companies in North America. The Chilean government has a target of generating 20% of the country’s power from renewable energies by 2025.
