Enel Green Starts Operating 61-MW Wind Farm in Chile

Renewable energy producer Enel Green Power has brought online the 61-megawatt Talinay Poniente wind farm in Chile.

The wind farm consists of 32 wind turbines and is able to generate over 160 gigawatt hours per year. This output is equivalent to the energy needs of about 60,000 Chilean households, and will be able avoid the emission of over 130,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The project, which cost US$140 million to develop, is supported by contracts to supply energy to regulated-market customers, Enel said. The contracts were awarded at the end of 2013 following a tender and the energy generated by the wind farm will be delivered to SIC’s transmission grid.
