Energia Renewables Closes US$161 million Financing for Irish Wind Farm

Energia Renewables has reached financial close for the 95-megawatts Meenadreen Extension wind farm project in Ireland that will cost €145 million (US$161 million).

Details of the financing were not disclosed. The project in Co Donegal will be powered by 38 sets of Nordex’s turbines. It will also involve the construction of a new €11m substation which will contribute to strengthening the electricity network in Donegal.

“The development of this new wind farm is a very positive step forward for renewable energy in Ireland and this is something that is very important to us,” said Peter Baillie, managing director of Energia Renewables.

Energia’s operational wind farm portfolio, which combines power from Energia’s projects and from third party wind farms contracted to Energia under power-purchase agreements, currently supplies 795MW of green power. This will increase by a further 300MW of projects,  including Meenadreen, that are currently in development.
