Global insurer Allianz has signed an agreement to acquire an additional 33 megawatts of capacity from a 105-MW wind project in Sweden from Nordic renewable energy developer OX2.
Google has also signed an agreement to buy the entire electricity output of the Maevaara wind farm for the next ten years to power its data center at Hamina, Finland.
This is the second such agreement signed by the three companies. In 2013, Allianz and OX2 signed a purchase agreement for 24 wind turbines at Maevaara, located in Overtornea and Pajala municipalities in northern Sweden. Google agreed to purchase the entire output for ten years, starting 2015. The latest deal is for an additional ten wind turbines, and Google will purchase the power when the new projects becomes operational in 2016.
The first 24 wind turbines are currently being commissioned, and the other ten turbines are expected to come on line in 2016.
