India’s Adani Group has signed an agreement to set up a solar park with 10,000 megawatts of capacity in Rajasthan state, which when completed will be the country’s largest.
Under the agreement between Adani Enterprises, a subsidiary of Adani Group, and state-owned Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corp., the two companies will form a joint venture to set up the park, which will include generation projects and a manufacturing unit for solar module, parts and equipment.
The Adani Group, primarily a coal trader and operator of thermal power projects, has recently a joint venture with US-based Sun Edison to build a solar photovoltaic manufacturing facility in Gujarat with an investment of up to US$4 billion.
The Indian government has announced plans to set up 100,000MW of solar capacity by 2022. It has also issued guidelines for setting up at least 25 solar parks each with a capacity of 500MW and above across India.
