Solar Choice Pty., a project developer, has been granted planning approval for a solar farm that will have a capacity of 2 gigawatts, which will be the largest in Australia.
The approval for the Bulli Creek Solar Farm in southern Queensland, was granted by the Toowoomba Regional Council. The project will take a total of eight years to reach its full capacity, and will be developed in stages of between 100 megawatts to 550MW. It will be located at 13,000 acres of land.
The first stage is expected to have a capacity of 550MW.
Solar Choice has not disclosed how it will fund the project, given that there is uncertainty over the government’s commitment to renewable energy. The government is rethinking a 20% by 2020 clean energy target. Solar Choice, however, says there is interest from investors around the world to participate in the project.
