GE has won an order to supply wind turbines to a 60-megawatt project developed by ICDAS near the town of Canakkale in northwestern Turkey.
The Biga Res project will use 19 sets of GE’s 3.2-MW turbines, the first units of this type installed anywhere in the world.
The project will contribute to the Turkish government’s goals of having 20GW of wind energy and 30of all energy supplied from renewable sources by the year 2023. According to the Turkish Wind Association, the country had 3,424MW of installed wind energy capacity as of the first half of 2014.
