Dong Energy has started commercial operation of a 312-megawatt offshore wind project north of the Island of Borkum in Germany.
The Borkum Riffgrund I offshore wind farm was originally developed as a joint venture with PNE Wind, which later sold its stake to Dong. PNE Wind continued as a service provider overseeing the construction of the project.
Dong’s other partners Kirkbi and William Demant Invest, both from Denmark.
The project, which comprises 78 wind turbines supplied by Siemens, is located 54 kilometres off the mainland and 34 kilometres off the island of Borkum in the North Sea.
