Gaelectric Acquires Stakes in Two Wind-Energy Projects in Ireland

Ireland-based renewable energy developer Gaelectric has acquired stakes in two wind energy projects in Kilkenny and Tipperary counties.

The company bought a 100% stake from ART Generation in the 13-8-megawatt Ballybay Wind Farm located at Ballybeagh, Kilkenny. The project comprises six Enercon E82 wind turbines. Gaelectric also acquired a 50% interest in the 115-MW Cnoc Wind Farm located at Grange Tipperary from Cnoc Windfarms Ltd.

Both projects, together with the Foyle Wind Farm, form part of the Blanchfield Cluster, which is a 34-MW underground grid connection to Thurles. Gaelectric will be the technical and commercial leader for the Blanchfield group of projects and grid connection.

Gaelectric’s near-term pipeline in Ireland now totals approximately 320MW of wind assets, about half of which are operating and the rest due to start commercial operations in 2017.
