Gamesa to Supply Turbines to 50-MW Uruguay Wind Farm

Wind turbine maker Gamesa has signed a contract with Spanish developer Smartener for the supply of 50 megawatts at the Maldonado II wind farm in Uruguay.

The agreement encompasses the supply, installation and commissioning of 25 sets of its 2-MW turbines for the wind farm located in the departments of Maldonado and Lavalleja in south-eastern Uruguay. Gamesa will also operate and manage the plant under a five-year agreement.

Delivery of the turbines is expected to begin in November and the wind farm’s construction is slated for completion during the second quarter of 2016. The new order is an an extension of the first phase of Maldonado wind farm, also developed by Smartener and already operational, where Gamesa installed 25 turbines in 2013.
