Voith to Refurbish 75-MW Sri Lankan Hydropower Plant

Germany’s Voith has won an order as a supplier for the modernisation of the 75-megawatt Polpitiya hydropower plant in Sir Lanka.

The Ceylon Electricity Board selected Voith to supply electro-mechanical equipment for Polpitiya’s two 37.5-MW generating units and the accompanying spherical valves, overhaul the spiral cases and draft tubes, as well as take over the erection and commissioning of the plant. Voith Financial Services has structured the financing of the project.

The plant started operating in 1969.
