Saudi Arabian Acwa Power Acquires 50MW Solar Project In Jordan

The acquisition for an undisclosed fee comes as the government of Jordan has awards power purchase agreements for 12 solar energy projects, seeking to install 200 megawatts in total. It will result in about 2.3 million tonnes of CO2 saved during its PPA term, which is roughly enough to power 15,000 homes. Prior to the acquisition a 20-year power purchase agreement had already been signed with Jordan’s National Electric Power Company (NEPCO). Germany’s ET Solutions AG will be providing engineering, procurement and construction services.

Japan’s Sumitomo Boosts Sustainable Pelletized Biomass In Brazil

With the participation of Sumitomo Corporation, Brazil’s Cosan Biomassa will increase its exports to Japan and Europe along with increased domestic sales, of up to 45 million tons/year of sugarcane pellets. Cosan has developed a fuel pellet made from sugarcane residues such as bagasse from the sugar mill and straw left over in the sugarcane field, and built a large-scale production plant (annual capacity 175,000 tons), the world’s first, last September. It commenced commercial production in December 2015.

Invenergy Announces 120 MW Wind Power Agreement with 3M

Leading renewable energy producer Invenergy has announced a partnership with 3M to reduce emissions through wind power, increasing it’s corporate off-site renewable energy procurement activities. The sector has nearly tripled from 2014 to 2015 with more than 3,400MW announced. Together with a other Purchase Agreements (PPA) announced with Google and other Fortune 500 companies, this brings Invenergy’s total corporate customer renewable energy portfolio to 570MW. 2016 is expected to be another strong year for clean energy corporate power procurement.

Cerberus Increases Renewable Energy Investments With 650MW Renovalia Acquisition

Cerberus has completed the acquisition of Spanish renewable energy company Renovalia Energy S.A. from affiliates of the Ortega Family and IDM Ortemar. This transaction gives Cerberus 100% control of Renovalia. Renovalia operates in six countries and has more than 650 megawatts of power generation under management along with a global development pipeline of wind farms and solar PV plants. The acquisition adds further clean energy assets to the total of US $28 billion currently under management.

JinkoSolar Agrees Largest US Contract to supply 1GW Solar PV Modules To sPower

China’s JinkoSolar has just agreed it’s largest US contract. It’s to supply up to 1GW, over three million of its high efficiency solar pv modules, to sPower before the end of 2016. The timing of the agreement is seen as highly significant in light of the recent extension by the US Federal Government of Investment Tax Credits for utility-scale solar development. The agreement also strengthens JinkoSolar, which currently has, 15,000 employees, 12 offices and 5 production facilities, globally.

RES Sells 198MW Bluestem Wind Project to Exelon – Powers Google Data Centers

The project will consist of 60 Vestas 3.3MW V117 wind turbine generators and construction will begin immediately. It will provide up to 300 jobs during it’s peak, and is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2016, generating an approximate 845,000 MWh per year to the Southern Power Pool electrical system – enough to power over 77,000 U.S. homes. A power purchase agreement for the project has been executed with Google, as part of the drive to power it’s data centres with clean energy.
