Nordex to Pay US$882 Million to Acquire Acciona’s Wind-Power Business

Nordex has signed an agreement to acquire the wind power business of Acciona S.A. for €785 million (US$882 million) in cash and shares.

Acciona’s wind power business is grouped under its subsidiary, Corporacion Acciona Windpower S.L., which is subject of the acquisition by Nordex.

The deal is subject to standard market conditions, including merger clearance by the relevant competition authorities.

Amazon Gets Approval for 80-MW Solar Farm in Virginia

Amazon has secured approval for a 80-megawatt solar farm developed by Community Energy in Accomack County, Virginia, called Amazon Solar Farm US East.
Governor Terry McAuliffe said the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality will issue the first Permit By Rule for the project, which will more than quadruple the amount of solar energy currently installed in the Commonwealth.

Southern Power to Acquire 151-MW Wind Farm From Apex

Southern Power has signed an agreement to acquire the 151-megawatt Grant Wind facility in Oklahoma from Apex Clean Energy.
The wind farm is the second that the subsidiary of the Southern Company has in its portfolio. The acquisition is expected to close in March 2016 upon successful completion of project construction. In March, Southern Power announced an agreement to acquire its first wind project – the 299-MW Kay Wind facility in Oklahoma, also from Apex Clean Energy – which is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Enel Awarded 533MW of Brazilian Solar Projects in Tender

Enel Green Power has been awarded the right to sign 20-year energy supply contracts in Brazil for a total of 553 megawatts of solar projects in a public tender—deals which the company says are valued at US$600 million.
The Italian company said it was awarded the most amount of capacity in the tender than any any other bidder, and will make it the “top player across the entire solar industry of Brazil in terms of installed capacity and project portfolio.”

UK Renewables Suffer Blow From Proposed Cuts in Assistance

In a blow to the renewable energy sector, the UK government is planning to impose massive cuts to a financial assistance program for clean energy projects including wind and solar.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change plans to reduce the so-called feed-in tariffs for wind-energy projects with capacities of between 100 kilowatts and 500kW to 4.52p/ per kilowatt-hour from 10.85p/kWh.

Mitsubishi Invests in US Airborne Wind Turbine Developer

Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Oman’s Suhail Bahwan Group have invested in Altaeros Energies, a Massachusetts-based technology company, to support the design and production of its airborne wind turbines. The investment amount was not disclosed. Last December, Japanese telco SoftBank Group Corp. said it planned to invest US$7 million in Altaeros.
